Reflecting Back, Marching Forward

BCCE 2026 is organized around the theme Reflecting Back, Marching Forward. The theme invites us to learn from the histories of chemistry education while considering what the field is becoming and what we want to build together.
To connect that theme to the program, BCCE 2026 uses two complementary organizing tools: Conference Contexts and Intersectional Attributes.
Conference Contexts
Conference Contexts identify broad areas where chemistry education has made important contributions and where there is continued opportunity to grow, question, and innovate. These contexts help organize programming and help attendees find sessions connected to their interests.

Intersectional Attributes
Intersectional Attributes describe cross-cutting features of chemistry education work. They highlight approaches, commitments, and areas of practice that may appear across many different contexts, including assessment, curriculum, theory, learning environments, public engagement, professional development, reflection, and students as partners.

Using the Framework
The thematic framework is meant to help attendees see connections across the conference. A single talk, poster, workshop, symposium, or conversation may connect to multiple contexts and attributes. Together, these lenses support a program that reflects the breadth of chemistry education while encouraging new connections across areas of work.
